A tutor for in class and at home. jacTUTOR is a purpose-built tool that sits safely within your favourite Jacaranda resource. Teachers can feel reassured their students will get guidance specific to that lesson, question and curriculum. It harnesses the power of AI for genuine learning, not just the answers.
A personal tutor for every student Now every student can get the help they need, when they need it. jacTUTOR uses GenAI to create a fair and level playing field for all students.
Get guidance, not the answer jacTUTOR doesn’t just give the answer away. Students are given prompts to help understand what they should be asking to get to a correct answer.
Combat Maths anxiety Afraid to raise a hand or ask more questions? With jacTUTOR students will find a safe space to ask questions, get clarification and try again.
Consistency over confusion There are so many ways to learn Maths. To avoid confusion, jacTUTOR is built on the same trusted method used in Maths Quest.
A safe space To keep students safe, any concerning or inappropriate comments are automatically flagged.
Would it be handy to get an extra set of hands to help students, both in and outside of class?
jacTUTOR is the perfect tool to help your students get unstuck and keep progressing, independently. Like an extra set of helping hands, it provides human-like guidance just like a teacher or tutor would.
Generative AI is a category of artificial intelligence. It can generate responses to questions or prompts from a user, using a set of instructions (prompt engineering) set by its creator.
jacTUTOR is a GenAI tool purpose-built for Jacaranda resources that sits safely within JacPLUS.
It acts as a tutor for students who can ask questions or select from pre-made prompts and in return get teacher-like guidance. jacTUTOR provides hints to help students understand the question and guide them to the answer, without giving it away.
Although both tools harness GenAI technology, they are very different in terms of quality.
Tools like ChatGPT are open source and draw on information from many places. This information is not necessarily aligned with the Australian education context. This means students may receive advice or methods different to what they’ve been taught so far, causing more confusion rather than clarity. ChatGPT will also answer any question it’s asked, so if a student asks for the answer, it will provide it.
jacTUTOR is a purpose-built tool. It will only provide guidance aligned to the Jacaranda resource and curricula the student is working within. This means it will interact in ways that students will recognise, rather than introducing a potentially new approach. It will also never give away an answer and includes extra safety guardrails to protect students who use it, unlike ChatGPT.
No. jacTUTOR will never give away the answer to a question.
It acts like a tutor and provides helpful hints to help students understand what the question is asking of them, so that they can arrive at the answer independently.
It’s free. jacTUTOR is available for free within select Jacaranda resources.
jacTUTOR will be available in the following series in 2024:
jacTUTOR will be available in the following series in early 2025:
It will be available for other subjects in the near future.
jacTUTOR is available within your Jacaranda resources in JacPLUS (online). No extra clicks or downloads necessary.
Unlike a real tutor, where a student might only see them once a week, they will get 24/7 access to the help they need to get unstuck at the point of learning.
