By now, Queensland Senior Mathematics teachers have begun planning on how they will implement the new Queensland Senior Mathematics Syllabuses and address the new exam structure in their teaching plans. But we understand this is a big change for teachers, and with most change comes uncertainly, so we set out to help teachers transition with confidence and clarity.

That’s why, we hosted a series of Implementation Workshops across Queensland to unpack the new Queensland Senior Mathematics Syllabuses and exam structure. Presented by Jacaranda’s Director of Publishing, Shirly Griffith, and Cathy Smith, a practising teacher and Jacaranda author, the workshops covered:

  • An overview of the structure and intent of the new Queensland Senior Syllabuses for Mathematics, with detailed examples.
  • How the Jacaranda Maths Quest for Queensland series addresses the requirements of the Syllabuses.
  • How studyON, our online study, revision and exam practise tool, helps students to prepare for exam success.

Overall, workshops were well attended by teachers from a range of schools across the sunshine state, and we were excited to hear incredibly positive feedback about our new offers. During afternoon tea, we took the opportunity to discuss with teachers their thoughts and feelings toward the changes, and were thrilled to learn that they left the workshop feeling more confident and prepared.

Much of the feedback we heard from teachers at the workshops has already informed us on improving our offers even further. Specifically, we heard loud and clear that teachers wanted Jacaranda to publish an Essential Mathematics title for 2019 – so we are doing just that! More information about the new Essential Maths title will be available very shortly.

We are also continuing to keep a close eye on any future updates from the QCAA to guarantee our new editions will address all the requirements of the Queensland Senior Mathematics Syllabus – you can be sure that with Jacaranda you’re in safe hands!
